What the 20 percent covers
The OnlyFans percentage is the same on every type of income, as reported on its public pages.
- Subscriptions. 20 percent of every monthly or bundle subscription.
- PPV. 20 percent of every paid message and locked post a fan unlocks.
- Tips. 20 percent of every tip, including tips on posts, in messages and on live streams.
- Referrals. If you join through another creator's referral link, OnlyFans pays that creator a reward out of its own share, as reported, so your 80 percent does not change.
So the answer to how much OnlyFans takes from tips is the same as for subscriptions: 20 percent. There is no lower rate for any income type. For the full list of costs, read our guide to OnlyFans fees.
Worked examples at different income levels
These are hypothetical examples. The maths uses the public 20 percent figure.
| Monthly fan payments | OnlyFans keeps (20 percent) | You keep (80 percent) | OnlyFans keeps per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 USD | 100 USD | 400 USD | 1,200 USD |
| 2,000 USD | 400 USD | 1,600 USD | 4,800 USD |
| 5,000 USD | 1,000 USD | 4,000 USD | 12,000 USD |
| 10,000 USD | 2,000 USD | 8,000 USD | 24,000 USD |
Here is a mixed example. You have 150 subscribers at 10 USD, you sell 60 PPV messages at 15 USD, and you receive 300 USD in tips. That is 1,500 plus 900 plus 300, so 2,700 USD. OnlyFans keeps 540 USD and you keep 2,160 USD.
How the OnlyFans cut compares with other sites
Facts about other platforms come from their public pages and reports and may change.
| Platform | Fee on subscriptions, PPV and tips | You keep from 2,700 USD |
|---|---|---|
| Fansti | 12 percent flat | 2,376 USD |
| OnlyFans | 20 percent (public) | 2,160 USD |
| Fansly | 20 percent (reported) | 2,160 USD |
| Fanvue | 15 percent first month, then 20 percent (reported) | 2,160 USD after month one |
| JustForFans | 30 percent (reported) | 1,890 USD |
In the mixed example, a 12 percent fee keeps 216 USD more each month than a 20 percent fee. Over a year that is 2,592 USD. A side by side look at the two biggest names is in our Fansly vs OnlyFans comparison.
Other things that change what reaches your bank
The platform percentage is the biggest cost, but not the only one.
- Taxes. Platforms do not pay your income tax. In the US you usually report this income as self employment income.
- Bank fees. Some banks charge for international transfers, as reported by creators outside the US.
- The pending period. On OnlyFans, earnings become available after a pending period, about 7 days in many regions according to its pages. Our OnlyFans payout guide explains timing and minimums.
None of these depend on which platform you pick, except payout methods and timing, which differ from site to site.
How Fansti takes less
Fansti charges a flat 12 percent on subscriptions, PPV and tips. You keep 88 percent of every price you set. The rate does not jump after an intro month, and there is no monthly fee for creators.
Payment processing is shown to the fan at checkout as its own line and paid by the fan, so it never comes out of your 88 percent. Payouts are weekly or on request from 50 USD, by bank transfer or in USDT and USDC, and Fansti charges nothing for the payout itself. See the full list on our fees page.
You can try the numbers before you sign up. The creator fee calculator on the Fansti homepage shows your monthly and yearly take home side by side, with no account needed.
